Week of 7/30 - Gen Con

Hey there, I've just returned from an exhilarating weekend at Gen Con, and I couldn't wait to share all the awesome experiences I had. If you're a fan of tabletop games, colorful illustrations, and the thrill of networking, you're in for a treat!

Meeting Friends, Old and New: Gen Con was an absolute blast! From the moment I stepped into the bustling convention hall, I knew I was in for an unforgettable adventure. One of the highlights was definitely the chance to meet so many new friends who share the same passion for gaming and art. It's incredible how quickly bonds can form over shared interests, and I'm grateful for the connections I made during my time there. Big shout-out to Jason Boles for being my buddy during most of my time there.

The Lorcana line was nuts! It seemed like everyone at Gen Con was eager to get their hands on this captivating game. The excitement was palpable as enthusiasts chatted and strategized, eagerly waiting for their turn to dive into the world of Lorcana. It was a true testament to the power of well-crafted gameplay and captivating visuals.

Game Projects on the Horizon: As an illustrator, there's no greater thrill than seeing the projects you've poured your heart into come to life. And guess what? Some of the game projects I've been lucky enough to contribute to are on the brink of release! I'll be sure to keep you all in the loop as more details emerge. It's both humbling and exhilarating to know that my art will soon be a part of the gaming experiences that bring joy to countless players.

Networking Wisdom: Keeping Organized Pays Off: One of the biggest takeaways from Gen Con was the importance of staying organized when it comes to networking. Before the convention, I hunkered down and did my homework. I researched all the different booths that would be on the convention floor. Then, I headed over to their websites to ensure my artistic style was a good fit for their needs. Once I qualified them, I reached out to these companies, sending them my portfolio and proposing meet-ups during Gen Con.

The result? A flurry of meetings with fellow creators, industry insiders, and potential collaborators. It was invigorating to discuss art, gaming, and the intersection of the two with so many talented individuals. After Gen Con concluded, I meticulously combed through my notes and updated my networking database. Having this organized resource at my fingertips has been an absolute game-changer (pun intended). It's a constant reminder that fostering meaningful connections requires a blend of enthusiasm and strategy.

So there you have it – my whirlwind adventure at Gen Con! From rubbing shoulders with fellow gamers and artists to navigating the card game frenzy and gearing up for some exciting releases, it's been a week filled with inspiration and camaraderie. Until next time!

Stay positive and creative,

-Josh
